Imagine earning one master’s degree while living and studying in up to six European countries, with your tuition covered and €1,400 paid into your account every month. That is exactly what the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development, known as ILSPSD, is offering for its 2027 to 2029 intake. Applications opened on 1 October 2026, and the scholarship deadline is 4 January 2027 at 23:59 CET.
ILSPSD is a two year, full time master’s programme delivered by a consortium of six European universities. Students begin at Leuphana University of Lüneburg in Germany and continue with partners that include the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals in Spain, the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom, the Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa in Portugal and the University of Tartu in Estonia. Depending on the study track you choose and complete, you graduate with a joint, double or multiple master’s degree.
The scholarship is generous. Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders receive €1,400 per month for the full 24 months of the programme, a total of €33,600, as a contribution toward travel, visa, installation and living costs. Scholarship holders are also exempt from tuition fees. The programme is open to graduates from any country in the world, which makes it a genuine opportunity for students across Africa, Asia and beyond who want a European master’s without the usual cost barrier.
There is one rule every applicant should know before starting. If you are applying for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship, you must already have finished your undergraduate studies by the time you apply. Final year students who have not yet completed their bachelor’s degree cannot be considered for the funded places, although self funded applications follow a later deadline of 31 March 2027. You will also need a personal statement of under 1,000 words, two reference letters, a CV and proof of English language proficiency.
If international law, security, peacebuilding or sustainable development fits your goals, start now. Read the official step by step application guide, choose your study track, and give your referees plenty of time.
